Since getting into fitness back in 2013 i have always ran. I was never big into it but it was always part of my program. Once or twice a week i would run, if that. Since the COVID-19 lock down on all of the gyms i have picked up running almost 3 to 4 times a week. Always in the morning i would wake up early and get my runs in before the day starts. Recently on a day that my run was planned it was raining outside so i did not run in the morning like i usually do. I waited till around 11a.m. to start my run and it was still raining but i made myself go. I actually had a great run despite the rain, cold, and wind(Not to mention the mud because i run on trail). During my 5 mile run that day I thought back to myself thinking how I almost did not go on this run, just because it was raining and i didnt want to go because it was not my normal run time. It brought me back to a memory i had from my time spent in afghanistan. We would always go on patrol at night. We never went out on a mission in the daylight hours. Then one day we had a mission in broad daylight, we were not prepared and our bodies were not used to it. Not used to the time of day, the heat, the humidity, the amount of walking during all of those combined was not good. We had a few people fall out from heat related incidents ass well as dehydration. That run that i decided to go on that day reminded me that you should always train no matter what. No matter the condition it is outside, Rain, snow, sleet...maybe not hail, but most of all train in the heat. Train at different times of the day using different types of exercise. It reminded me to always keep my body moving in different planes of motion and to never get stuck into one pattern or one training time and platform. Never let your body get used to your training style. Keep your body guessing and become better prepared for what the future holds.
